The Grand Haven Area Community Foundation is a conduit through which donors give to make positive and long-lasting differences in the lives of others. During the 2011 fiscal year (January 1, 2011- December 31, 2011), the Foundation's Trustees have approved the grants listed below from a portion of the income generated by our donors' undesignated and field of interest contributions. Support for grants from the Greatest Needs Fund also come from the following unrestricted funds: Dr. Edgar and Gretchen Garrison Family Fund, Garry L. and Jean Fisher Mesler Family Fund, Nancy Dornbos Rhem Fund, and the Robert P. and Annette Fisher Whitney Fund.

Families in Crisis Initiative to assist local non-profits in distributing help to families affected by the economic downturn. Greatest Needs Fund, Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund, Youth Fund, Zenko Family Field of Interest Fund, N. Kay Doss Memorial Fund, Gene and Sally Harbeck Fund, Helene D. and Bernath P. Sherwood Fund.

  • Love, Inc. $24,000 Free Health Clinic to provide urgent care for uninsured Adults in Grand Haven.
    Families in Crisis Funds and the Wayne VanAgtmeal Field of Interest Fund

  • Community Access Line of the Lakeshore $4,118.21 Technology Improvements to enhance delivery of the 2-1-1 service.

  • Tri-Cities College Access Network $17,500 to support the College Access Network and count toward the Kresge Challenge and up to $50,000 to be earmarked for potential College Access programs.

  • West Michigan Environmental Action Council Education Foundation $3,000 Mouth of River Clean Up Project engaging volunteers from Ottawa County and the Lakeshore area.

  • Tri-Cities Kids League $1,171 Improvements to Spring Lake Middle School softball fields that will improve safety conditions with proper grading and installation of clay blocks at the mount and in the right handed batter's box.

  • Children's Advocacy Center $5000 to help produce a video to focus on online security.

  • City of Grand Haven $750 to purchase flags and poles to be placed on downtown light posts during patriotic weekends.

  • Lighthouse Conservancy Community Challenge Grant-$100,000 to be paid over three years.

  • 20th Circuit Court, County of Ottawa-$5,000 to support the Legal Self Help Program

  • Center for Women in Transition-$4,500 program support for the Grand Haven Offices & Services to Tri-Cities area clients.

  • Karye Dance Theatre-$5,000 Grand Haven Cultural Exchange Program August-October 2011

  • St. Patrick's Church $6,000 Job Seekers Program

  • Tri-Cities Ministries $9,500 Employee Assistance Program for Tri-Cities Businesses

  • West Michigan Strategic Alliance $5,000 Internship Initiative for Tri-Cities Non-Profits

  • Family Promise of Muskegon County $2,500 Beds for Host Congregations for homeless guest families

  • Northwest Ottawa Chamber Foundation - $7,292 to purchase a Smart Board and associated equipment for use in newly created community meeting space - Youth Fund and Greatest Needs Fund

  • Tri-Cities Ministries Counseling - $10,000 to provide counseling assistance for families in crisis - Families in Crisis Fund and Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund

  • Tri-Cities College Access Network - $15,000 to support programming to help build a college-going culture in the Tri-Cities - Families in Crisis Fund, Edith Mae and William Alt Family Fund, and Greatest Needs Fund

  • American Legion Fallen Heroes Campaign - $8,000 to support the erection of a memorial monument in Central Park in Grand Haven - Greatest Needs Fund and Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund

  • Grand Haven Schools Foundation- $25,000 to support Pre-School Scholarships for at-risk children in the Tri-Cities - Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund

  • Families in Crisis Fund - $70,000 to support the 2012 Families in Crisis Initiative - Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund

  • Grand Rapids Symphony $5000 to support the 2011/12 Tri-Cities Area Lollipops Music Education Program.

  • Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance - $6,000 to provide three Institutes for Racial Healing courses in the Tri-Cities area - Helene D. and Bernath P. Sherwood, Jr. Fund and Greatest Needs Fund

  • Tri-Cities Family YMCA - $8,450 to support the new Pedaling for Parkinson's Program - Greatest Needs Fund, Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund, Cornelia B. Wagner and Ruth B. Hoek Fund, Margaret Lynn Wilson Fund, Gene and Sally Harbeck Fund, and Zenko Family Field of Interest Fund

  • Ottawa County Human Services Coordinating Council - $5,000 to help facilitate collaboration among human service agencies in addressing the needs of Ottawa County residents - Greatest Needs Fund

  • Bethany Christian Services - $10,600 to increase the number of families that are able to receive family counseling services in the Tri-Cities area through Bethany's newly opened Grand Haven office - Families in Crisis Fund and Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund
