The Process

The Grand Haven Area Community Foundation awards grants in the areas of Arts & Culture, Economic & Community Betterment, Education, Environment, and Health & Human Services to charitable organizations that are recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We are also able to award grants to units of government, educational institutions, and churches that are providing services which benefit the Tri-Cities community.   

 

Step 1: Submit a Letter of Inquiry

If you have an idea for a project, you may submit a Letter of Inquiry at any time. We recommend that you submit your Inquiry a minimum of 4-6 weeks before the grant deadline.

Step 2: We review your Letter of Inquiry

Within 2 weeks of submission, our staff will review your Letter of Inquiry to determine whether the project aligns with our grantmaking priorities and respond to you with next steps. 

Step 3: You Complete a Grant Application

Information provided in your Letter of Inquiry not only determines whether the project aligns with our grantmaking priorities, but also helps us determine which committee would be best suited to review your proposal for potential funding. If eligible, the appropriate grant application will be made available to you through the online application portal.

Step 4: Grant Applications Reviewed

Staff conduct a thorough due diligence process on all submitted grant applications. A follow-up site visit may be scheduled prior to review by one of the following committees.

Our Grants Committee is a subcommittee of our Board of Trustees who review grant applications and make funding recommendations to our Board of Trustees.

Youth Advisory Council

The Youth Advisory Council reviews grants that work to expand programming and opportunities for the young people in the Tri-Cities. Click here to see more of what they do and learn about their grants program. 

Larger youth-focused grants may be reviewed by both the Grants Committee and the Youth Advisory Council for a co-funding opportunity. 

Step 5: Final Grant Decisions are Made

Funding recommendations made by the above committees are approved by the Board of Trustees.
